Just a couple of short hours ago one of my beloved friends, who was also one of my beautiful bridesmaids, was married to her boyfriend and the father of her amazing 9-month old little girl. They recently decided to have another baby and are delighted to be 4 weeks along and, for them, it seemed the perfect time to complete the puzzle and get married. They did so quietly, without fanfare, in a Kansas City courthouse and are now at home celebrating with their baby girl this evening. All of their family and friends, myself included, are back in New York and wishing them all the best. Oh how I wish I could have been there, but I am so happy for them and I can't wait to celebrate with them just as soon as we can.
If I'm perfectly honest, I can't help but feel a bit wistful. I loved every moment of our wedding, but it wasn't without flaws and there are certainly things I would change if I could do it all over again. I realize I'm not "supposed" to say that, but I'm saying it because it's the truth. The planning process got very stressful at times and I often dreamed of eloping and just showing up at our reception a few months later and dancing the night away. And, I have to say, courthouse weddings can be every bit as chic and celebratory as a "real" wedding...just ask Carrie Bradshaw! So on that note, an ode to the courthouse wedding and a giant hug and my warmest heartfelt congratulations to my dear Christina and her new husband Graig...
